This was a shoot with Aziz, a wedding photographer from London. Jong met him when he was in London and before he left for the States last June 6, he told me to “baby sit” Aziz. So I thought I was going to drive him around and accompany him. Well actually I was just to entertain him just whenever I was free. But during the week of Aziz’s stay, I was actually pretty busy. Jason Magbanua and Randall also met up with him and took him around.
Then Aziz texted me on June 7, a Saturday, while I was doing a wedding, telling me that he wanted to shoot on Monday. He wanted to do something different. A bridal shoot in some areas of Manila.
So to make the story short, I basically fixed everything for this shoot in just one day. Haha! I never thought arranging a shoot like this would be very stressful (well probably just this one since everything was all cramped up in a day, and I was in a bridal fair while fixing it up).
I would like to thank everyone that took part in this shoot and made it a lot easier for me.
To Jesy Alto for agreeing to do the makeup of the models, even if we were shooting on our supposedly “rest day” and doing a fabulous job!
To Joel Estrelles, hairstylist, for doing a wonderful job on MJ & Sarah.
To Madge Lejano for understanding my shortcoming of informing her about the shoot.
To Karen Reyes for letting Joel do our models first (she has a trial makeup that day and Joel is her partner hairstylist).
To Niko, for providing those exquisite gowns, even if it was of short notice.
To Ram de Vera, who was abroad but still gave me Dindee de Leon’s number who referred me to MJ Maycon.
To MJ Maycon for agreeing to do the shoot and come home earlier from her vacation in Punta Fuego and for being so patient and nice.
To Sarah, also for doing this, and to her boyfriend for accompanying her.
To Albert and Marjun, who was with me the whole day and assisting during the entire shoot.
So, here are the pictures. 😀

combining (and contrasting) a luxurious sector of life such as a LOVELY girl and scenes from poor, rough parts of town ALWAYS and automaticaly creates CONTRASTS, and contrasts create TENSIONS, of course. Going one styep further: tensions create INTEREST (in the outcome) and involvement (on which side would WE, that is I, choose to be?)
In this case: where would I put my sympathy? With the stylish but obviously pampered girl in her expensive dress? Or with the poor people living their raw, difficult lives in these bare settings?
So these pictures invite us to take a social stand: on the side of (stylish) luxury or do we (that is again: I) admire the poor, vulnerablke but in their way admirable people the MORE?
